A man can have all the material posessions in the world and still not be happy. Happiness comes from you and you alone. According to Budhism, you're born into this world alone and you die alone..so it's all up to you. That's why 'the simple life' can be quite fullfilling. It strips away all the excess crap that doesn't matter. It's perfectly ok to not be happy with things. It's not ok to stay in the same ruts and not do anything about it. It is however hard to accomplish this. Old habbits die hard..and some situations are painful to set right. Baby steps man..baby steps.
