It's sad when my attempts to help only hurt. Flailing arms become brick walls, and in some way I'm drawn into the darkness as well. I want to help, maby for me more than for you.

It's hard to see the humanity in everyone. The nature of society makes us tend to view others as objects we interact with. Social interactions are more like obstacles that we navigate, rather a connection between two sentient beings. Yesterday I had a conversation with a strage man in the doctors office. He told me about the 15 years he spent as a taxi cab driver. He was very proud of the fact he had never been robbed even though people tried. I asked how it was that no one successfully robbed him, and he said 'cause I was gonna shoot them'. My first reaction was to be slightly freaked out by this guy, but then I kept thinking 'he's just a person and I should treat him as one.' There's no need for us to be so afraid of each other. We should communicate with each other as humans, not objects...from the bum on the street to the policeman that gives you a ticket. For some reason, this is a hard thing to do.
